B.L. Mostyn is a multi-award-winning author of YA fantasy and an avid world traveler, always reaching for far horizons. Drawing inspiration from journeys across six continents, she creates vivid, immersive worlds rich with dramatic landscapes, mythic creatures, and diverse peoples—settings that challenge her characters and captivate her readers.

Her debut novel, Heroes of Another Age—a Gold Medal recipient in Fiction from Literary Titan Book Awards, Global Book Awards: Bronze Metal in Epic Fantasy winner, and current finalist for the Ozma award in Chanticleer's International Book Awards—serves as the prequel to her upcoming Guardian Series, a sweeping project many years in the making.

Now, she’s excited to share her adventures and creative process with readers and authors alike, inviting dreamers and thrill-seekers to step into tales of perilous quests, shadowy monsters, and hard-won triumphs through her writing and speaking.

Writing

Primarily focused on young adult fantasy, B.L. also wrote a few children's books (also yet to be published), and a horror short story or two (shhh). No matter the genre, she loves to escape into other worlds and bring others along for the ride.

Art

While writing certainly is an art form in and of itself, B.L. also loves the visual kind. Given a great deal of time (she never has), she prefers oil paint, but these days, she's lucky to get in some pen and ink. Check some of them out in the Gallery.

Travel

B.L. loves to travel the world and has been lucky enough to visit six continents (still missing Antarctica). She finds the world an endless fount of inspiration for settings, people, culture, and conflict but loves it most for the Wonder.

Reading

Hand in hand with writing, there is reading. Like travel, B.L. finds reading a great source of inspiration, not only for story-sparking ideas but also for the motivation to write herself, to tell her own stories just like the author she's reading.

Nature

Inspiration and joy can be found all around you, and never more so than in nature. A hike, a rock climb, or even a walk in the woods brings rejuvenation, peace, and the space to breathe. I highly recommend it.

Speaking & Teaching

I teach and speak on fantasy world building, focusing on practical tools writers can use to create immersive worlds that enhance character, theme, and story.
